Antibody-Dependent Enhancement (ADE)

ADE is also called Immune Enhancement or Pathogenic Priming.

It is an overpriming of the immune system so that when the person is exposed again to a general coronavirus in the environment such as the common cold, the body may overreact.

This problem was seen with vaccines produced for SARS-CoV-1 back in 2005 in the animal studies.  The ferrets did fine after receiving the vaccine.  But when they were exposed to SARS-CoV-1 later, they died.

Charles Richet won a Nobel Prize for his research on anaphylaxis, a similar phenomenon.
